CVE-2026-89098: Nfs-utils: nfs-utils: denial of service via assertion failure in fsidd
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.14% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: azl3 nfs-utils 2.6.4-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 2.6.4-5.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to azl3 nfs-utils 2.6.4-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 2.6.4-5 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
A flaw was found in nfs-utils. The fsidd daemon improperly handles input received over its local domain socket by relying on program assertions to verify command arguments. A local user can exploit this vulnerability by sending a malformed request lacking the required arguments to trigger an assertion failure. This causes the daemon to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for filesystem identifier lookup services until restarted.
