CVE-2026-64385: smb: client: fix double-free in SMB2_ioctl() replay

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.45% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 0be4bc64882edaefaaee8d1e27d083643eb778e6, 276c8efbc49f9303ac76d0d4deab7128581b0f3b, 6.6.145; azl3 kernel 6.6.144.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.145.2-1.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 0be4bc64882edaefaaee8d1e27d083643eb778e6, 276c8efbc49f9303ac76d0d4deab7128581b0f3b, 6.6.145; azl3 kernel 6.6.144.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.145.2-1 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix double-free in SMB2_ioctl() replay A response-bearing attempt can return a replayable error and free its response buffer. If SMB2_ioctl_init() fails before the next send, cleanup retains the previous buffer type and frees that response again. Reset response bookkeeping before each attempt to prevent the stale free.
