CVE-2026-64384: smb: client: fix change notify replay double-free
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.45% (FIRST EPSS).
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 145f820dcbb2cced374f2532f8a61a44dce4a615, 52af1975f0dfae990c5a0e85872cc41be0e88a68, 5821f9dbb8b5b24391850a13418e633edd0fb003; azl3 kernel 6.6.144.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.145.2-1.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix change notify replay double-free A response-bearing attempt can return a replayable error and free its response buffer. If SMB2_notify_init() fails before the next send, cleanup retains the previous buffer type and frees that response again. Reset response bookkeeping before each attempt to prevent the stale free.
