CVE-2026-33536: ImageMagick has an Out-of-bounds Write via InterpretImageFilename

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 18/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.13% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. Special conditions such as timing or configuration are required.
  • Fixed version: imagemagick (Alpine:v3.23) 7.1.2.19-r0; imagemagick (Alpine:v3.24) 7.1.2.18-r0; imagemagick (Debian:12) 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u8.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to imagemagick (Alpine:v3.23) 7.1.2.19-r0; imagemagick (Alpine:v3.24) 7.1.2.18-r0; imagemagick (Debian:12) 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u8 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to 7.1.2-18 and 6.9.13-43, due to an incorrect return value on certain platforms a pointer is incremented past the end of a buffer that is on the stack and that could result in an out of bounds write. Versions 7.1.2-18 and 6.9.13-43 patch the issue.
