CVE-2026-15809: Github.com/cri-o/cri-o: fix bypass for cve-2022-4318 — /etc/passwd injection via home env
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 31/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.18% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: cri-o (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8; cri-o-debuginfo (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8; cri-o-debugsource (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to cri-o (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8; cri-o-debuginfo (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8; cri-o-debugsource (Red Hat:openshift:4.12::el8) 0:1.25.5-36.rhaos4.12.git2e7f657.el8 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
A flaw was found in CRI-O. The fix for a previous vulnerability (CVE-2022-4318) was incorrect, allowing it to be bypassed. An attacker capable of setting environment variables on a container can inject a newline character into the HOME environment variable. This issue allows the addition of arbitrary lines into /etc/passwd by use of a specially crafted environment variable.
