CVE-2025-55004: ImageMagick: heap-buffer overflow read in MNG magnification with alpha
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 17/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.54% (FIRST EPSS).
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: ImageMagick ImageMagick 7.1.2-1.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 7.6, NVD 4.3.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to ImageMagick ImageMagick 7.1.2-1 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to version 7.1.2-1, ImageMagick is vulnerable to heap-buffer overflow read around the handling of images with separate alpha channels when performing image magnification in ReadOneMNGIMage. This can likely be used to leak subsequent memory contents into the output image. This issue has been patched in version 7.1.2-1.
