CVE-2024-33602: nscd: netgroup cache assumes NSS callback uses in-buffer strings
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 29/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.40% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. Special conditions such as timing or configuration are required.
- Fixed version: CBL Mariner 2.0 ARM 2.35-7; CBL Mariner 2.0 x64 2.35-7.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to CBL Mariner 2.0 ARM 2.35-7; CBL Mariner 2.0 x64 2.35-7 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
nscd: netgroup cache assumes NSS callback uses in-buffer strings The Name Service Cache Daemon's (nscd) netgroup cache can corrupt memory when the NSS callback does not store all strings in the provided buffer. The flaw was introduced in glibc 2.15 when the cache was added to nscd. This vulnerability is only present in the nscd binary.
