CVE-2022-49748: perf/x86/amd: fix potential integer overflow on shift of a int

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.19% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 08245672cdc6505550d1a5020603b0a8d4a6dcc7, 14cc13e433e1067557435b1adbf05608d7d47a93, 5.4.231.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 08245672cdc6505550d1a5020603b0a8d4a6dcc7, 14cc13e433e1067557435b1adbf05608d7d47a93, 5.4.231 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: perf/x86/amd: fix potential integer overflow on shift of a int The left shift of int 32 bit integer constant 1 is evaluated using 32 bit arithmetic and then passed as a 64 bit function argument. In the case where i is 32 or more this can lead to an overflow. Avoid this by shifting using the BIT_ULL macro instead.
