CVE-2026-74730: NFS: Pin the 'struct nfs_server' during a FREE_STATEID call

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.51% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 80ed3d762628b36c9e4b22fac7c65b72ef3b13dd, af62f1af182d33a0de38308c012841885d8ab92e, caee6a68ffaa5016dfc01cd0b3dc1896a32e3abd; azl3 kernel 6.6.150.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.152.1-1.
  • Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 80ed3d762628b36c9e4b22fac7c65b72ef3b13dd, af62f1af182d33a0de38308c012841885d8ab92e, caee6a68ffaa5016dfc01cd0b3dc1896a32e3abd; azl3 kernel 6.6.150.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.152.1-1 or later.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFS: Pin the 'struct nfs_server' during a FREE_STATEID call Dan Aloni reports that he was able to hit a use-after-free bug if a FREE_STATEID operation gets delayed for whatever reason. Fix this by bumping the refcount of the 'struct nfs_server' object for the duration of the FREE_STATEID so it doesn't get cleaned up from underneath us while operations are still in flight.

Variant candidates

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.

Chain candidates

An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
