CVE-2026-68433: libceph: bound get_version reply decode to front len

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 34/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.36% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 0d934c934ec746d53fc7e4f53239792647bbae63, 1307028f082756bf453e1889aee9983d30643a4b, 340e0386aa39da181015bee38f309018c335ce16; azl3 kernel 6.6.143.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.150.1-1.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 0d934c934ec746d53fc7e4f53239792647bbae63, 1307028f082756bf453e1889aee9983d30643a4b, 340e0386aa39da181015bee38f309018c335ce16; azl3 kernel 6.6.143.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.150.1-1 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: libceph: bound get_version reply decode to front len handle_get_version_reply() uses msg->front_alloc_len as the decode boundary for MON_GET_VERSION_REPLY. That is the size of the reused reply buffer, not the number of bytes actually received. A truncated reply can therefore pass ceph_decode_need() and decode the second u64 from stale tail bytes left in the buffer by an earlier message, causing an uninitialized memory read. Use msg->front.iov_len as the receive-side decode boundary, matching other libceph reply handlers and limiting decoding to the bytes that were actually read from the wire.
