CVE-2026-67279: SSH Pre-Authentication Rekey State Bypass in MikroTik RouterOS
Noroxi assessment
Priority: This week (action score 60/100)
- CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild (Sep 25, 2026). Remediation deadline for US federal agencies: Sep 28, 2026.
- A ready-made attack tool exists and the flaw can be exploited over the network without an account, so priority is at least “This week”.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 2.2% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 83.1% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- Fixed version: sshamble (openSUSE:Tumbleweed) 0.3.12-1.1.
Don’t wait for the next maintenance window. Upgrade to sshamble (openSUSE:Tumbleweed) 0.3.12-1.1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · CISA KEV · FIRST EPSS
RouterOS SSH enters the connection protocol after a client-requested rekey even though user authentication was never attempted, allowing an unauthenticated client to open a session channel and send an exec request. On affected builds the server dispatches the command, enabling unauthenticated creation, overwrite, and reconstruction of files in the RouterOS managed file namespace, including support files containing configuration and diagnostic data. This issue was fixed in versions: 6.49.21 (Long-term), 7.23.4 (Long-term) and 7.24.2 (Stable)
