CVE-2026-67277: Kernel memory disclosure and denial of service in MikroTik RouterOS btest service

Noroxi assessment

Priority: This week (action score 65/100)

  • CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild (Sep 10, 2026). Remediation deadline for US federal agencies: Sep 13, 2026.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.5% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 75.3% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • According to the record, no fixed version is available yet.

Don’t wait for the next maintenance window. Until a fix is released, restrict access to the affected component and follow the vendor's advisory.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · CISA KEV · FIRST EPSS

RouterOS accepts a "related" btest connection before the corresponding primary session has completed authentication. An unauthenticated client can use this state to start an IPv4 UDP test. With "random-data=false", the sender transmits an uninitialized tail from a kernel packet buffer. A separate unchecked, inverted packet-size interval causes unsigned integer underflow, anomalously large fragmented output, and can restart the RouterOS kernel. This issue was fixed in versions: 6.49.21 (Long-term), 7.23.4 (Long-term) and 7.24.2 (Stable)

Actively exploited in the wild

CISA added this to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on Sep 10, 2026. That signals real attacks, not theory.

Remediation deadline for US federal agencies: Sep 13, 2026.

A function added for development or support ships to production without authentication. It often relies on the assumption that it is “only reachable from the internal network.”

A representative example of this vulnerability class. Not the vendor's source code; it shows the faulty pattern and its fix.
