CVE-2026-52933: io_uring/poll: fix signed comparison in io_poll_get_ownership()
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 31/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.14% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 326941b22806cbf2df1fbfe902b7908b368cce42, 5.16, 6.1; azl3 kernel 6.6.139.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.143.1-1.
- Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).
Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 326941b22806cbf2df1fbfe902b7908b368cce42, 5.16, 6.1; azl3 kernel 6.6.139.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.143.1-1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/poll: fix signed comparison in io_poll_get_ownership() io_poll_get_ownership() uses a signed comparison to check whether poll_refs has reached the threshold for the slowpath: if (unlikely(atomic_read(&req->poll_refs) >= IO_POLL_REF_BIAS)) atomic_read() returns int (signed). When IO_POLL_CANCEL_FLAG (BIT(31)) is set in poll_refs, the value becomes negative in signed arithmetic, so the >= 128 comparison always evaluates to false and the slowpath is never taken. Fix this by casting the atomic_read() result to unsigned int before the comparison, so that the cancel flag is treated as a large positive value and correctly triggers the slowpath.
