CVE-2026-46155: smb/client: fix out-of-bounds read in smb2_compound_op()

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 36/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.47% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 512d33bc8ea4ea5c19728ee118715f4b1f4d1926, 6.6.140, 8d09328dfda089675e4c049f3f256064a1d1996b; azl3 kernel 6.6.139.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.141.1-1.
  • Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 512d33bc8ea4ea5c19728ee118715f4b1f4d1926, 6.6.140, 8d09328dfda089675e4c049f3f256064a1d1996b; azl3 kernel 6.6.139.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.141.1-1 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb/client: fix out-of-bounds read in smb2_compound_op() If a server sends a truncated response but a large OutputBufferLength, and terminates the EA list early, check_wsl_eas() returns success without validating that the entire OutputBufferLength fits within iov_len. Then smb2_compound_op() does: memcpy(idata->wsl.eas, data[0], size[0]); Where size[0] is OutputBufferLength. If iov_len is smaller than size[0], memcpy can read beyond the end of the rsp_iov allocation and leak adjacent kernel heap memory.

Variant candidates

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.
