CVE-2026-45872: scsi: smartpqi: Fix memory leak in pqi_report_phys_luns()

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.17% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 41b37312bd9722af77ec7817ccf22d7a4880c289, 454570434114e4862767f506a442a0f110b639b2, d52e13122d3771f753dd73ae6512fa01f58015cb.
  • Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 41b37312bd9722af77ec7817ccf22d7a4880c289, 454570434114e4862767f506a442a0f110b639b2, d52e13122d3771f753dd73ae6512fa01f58015cb or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: smartpqi: Fix memory leak in pqi_report_phys_luns() pqi_report_phys_luns() fails to release the rpl_list buffer when encountering an unsupported data format or when the allocation for rpl_16byte_wwid_list fails. These early returns bypass the cleanup logic, leading to memory leaks. Consolidate the error handling by adding an out_free_rpl_list label and use goto statements to ensure rpl_list is consistently freed on failure. Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool and code review.

Variant candidates

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.

Chain candidates

An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
