Gnutls: gnutls: authentication bypass via nul character in username

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.94% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 60.3% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: gnutls (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2; gnutls-c++ (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2; gnutls-dane (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2.
  • Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 7.1, NVD 9.8.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to gnutls (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2; gnutls-c++ (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2; gnutls-dane (AlmaLinux:10) 3.8.10-4.el10_2 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A flaw was found in gnutls. Servers configured with RSA-PSK (Rivest–Shamir–Adleman – Pre-Shared Key) wrongfully matched usernames containing a NUL character with truncated usernames. A remote attacker could exploit this by sending a specially crafted username, leading to an authentication bypass. This vulnerability allows an attacker to gain unauthorized access by circumventing the authentication process.
