CVE-2026-41242: protobufjs has an arbitrary code execution issue
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 37/100)
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.77% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 55.8% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- Fixed version: protobufjs (npm) 7.5.5, 8.0.1, 6.11.6.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to protobufjs (npm) 7.5.5, 8.0.1, 6.11.6 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
protobufjs compiles protobuf definitions into JavaScript (JS) functions. In versions prior to 8.0.1, 7.5.5, and 6.11.6, attackers can inject arbitrary code in the "type" fields of protobuf definitions, which will then execute during object decoding using that definition. Versions 8.0.1, 7.5.5, and 6.11.6 patch the issue.

Is the protobufjs on your site affected?
The free JavaScript library scanner reads the protobufjs version from the files your site loads, matches this record and other known vulnerabilities, and gives the safe version on the same branch. If the version can't be read, it says so. No account needed.
