CVE-2026-0309: PAN-OS: Authenticated Command Injection in CLI with Luna HSM Configuration

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 16/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.78% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 55.9% of all records.
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. Administrator privileges are required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 10.2.10-h40, 10.2.13-h24, 10.2.16-h10.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 10.2.10-h40, 10.2.13-h24, 10.2.16-h10 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A command injection vulnerability in Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS® software enables an authenticated administrator to bypass system restrictions and run arbitrary commands as a root user. To be able to exploit this issue, the user must have access to the PAN-OS CLI and the device must be configured with a Luna Hardware Security Module (HSM). The security risk posed by this issue is significantly minimized when CLI access is restricted to a limited group of administrators. Panorama, Cloud NGFW, and Prisma® Access are not impacted by this vulnerability.

User input is inserted as text into a shell command. The shell may interpret special characters in the input as part of the command.

A representative example of this vulnerability class. Not the vendor's source code; it shows the faulty pattern and its fix.
