CVE-2024-56708: EDAC/igen6: Avoid segmentation fault on module unload

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 31/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 029ac07bb92d2f7502d47a4916f197a8445d83bf, 2a80e710bbc088a2511c159ee4d910456c5f0832, 830cabb61113d92a425dd3038ccedbdfb3c8d079; azl3 kernel 6.6.57.1-7 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.64.2-1; cbl2 kernel 5.15.173.1-2 on CBL Mariner 2.0 5.15.176.3-1.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 029ac07bb92d2f7502d47a4916f197a8445d83bf, 2a80e710bbc088a2511c159ee4d910456c5f0832, 830cabb61113d92a425dd3038ccedbdfb3c8d079; azl3 kernel 6.6.57.1-7 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.64.2-1; cbl2 kernel 5.15.173.1-2 on CBL Mariner 2.0 5.15.176.3-1 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: EDAC/igen6: Avoid segmentation fault on module unload The segmentation fault happens because: During modprobe: 1. In igen6_probe(), igen6_pvt will be allocated with kzalloc() 2. In igen6_register_mci(), mci->pvt_info will point to &igen6_pvt->imc[mc] During rmmod: 1. In mci_release() in edac_mc.c, it will kfree(mci->pvt_info) 2. In igen6_remove(), it will kfree(igen6_pvt); Fix this issue by setting mci->pvt_info to NULL to avoid the double kfree.
