CVE-2024-47709: can: bcm: Clear bo->bcm_proc_read after remove_proc_entry().

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.24% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 4.19.323, 5.10.227, 5.15.168; Azure Linux 3.0 ARM 6.6.56.1-5; Azure Linux 3.0 x64 6.6.56.1-5.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 4.19.323, 5.10.227, 5.15.168; Azure Linux 3.0 ARM 6.6.56.1-5; Azure Linux 3.0 x64 6.6.56.1-5 or later.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: bcm: Clear bo->bcm_proc_read after remove_proc_entry(). syzbot reported a warning in bcm_release(). [0] The blamed change fixed another warning that is triggered when connect() is issued again for a socket whose connect()ed device has been unregistered. However, if the socket is just close()d without the 2nd connect(), the remaining bo->bcm_proc_read triggers unnecessary remove_proc_entry() in bcm_release(). Let's clear bo->bcm_proc_read after remove_proc_entry() in bcm_notify().
