CVE-2024-40943: ocfs2: fix races between hole punching and AIO+DIO
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 18/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.19% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. Special conditions such as timing or configuration are required.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 050ce8af6838c71e872e982b50d3f1bec21da40e, 117b9c009b72a6c2ebfd23484354dfee2d9570d2, 38825ff9da91d2854dcf6d9ac320a7e641e10f25.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 7.8, NVD 4.7.
- Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).
Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 050ce8af6838c71e872e982b50d3f1bec21da40e, 117b9c009b72a6c2ebfd23484354dfee2d9570d2, 38825ff9da91d2854dcf6d9ac320a7e641e10f25 or later.

Variant candidates
Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.
No nightly-computed relations.
Chain candidates
An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
