CVE-2024-36015: ppdev: Add an error check in register_device
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 31/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 4.10, 4.11, 5d5b24edad1107a2ffa99058f20f6aeeafeb5d39.
- Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).
Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 4.10, 4.11, 5d5b24edad1107a2ffa99058f20f6aeeafeb5d39 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppdev: Add an error check in register_device In register_device, the return value of ida_simple_get is unchecked, in witch ida_simple_get will use an invalid index value. To address this issue, index should be checked after ida_simple_get. When the index value is abnormal, a warning message should be printed, the port should be dropped, and the value should be recorded.
