CVE-2024-26973: fat: fix uninitialized field in nostale filehandles
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 03a7e3f2ba3ca25f1da1d3898709a08db14c1abb, 74f852654b8b7866f15323685f1e178d3386c688, 9840d1897e28f8733cc1e38f97e044f987dc0a63; azl3 hyperv-daemons 6.6.22.1-2 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.35.1-1; azl3 hyperv-daemons 6.6.35.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.6.35.1-1.
- Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fat: fix uninitialized field in nostale filehandles When fat_encode_fh_nostale() encodes file handle without a parent it stores only first 10 bytes of the file handle. However the length of the file handle must be a multiple of 4 so the file handle is actually 12 bytes long and the last two bytes remain uninitialized. This is not great at we potentially leak uninitialized information with the handle to userspace. Properly initialize the full handle length.
