Glibc: integer overflow in __vsyslog_internal()
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 2.6% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 85.6% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: glibc (Debian:12) 2.36-9+deb12u4; glibc (Debian:13) 2.37-15.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to glibc (Debian:12) 2.36-9+deb12u4; glibc (Debian:13) 2.37-15 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
An integer overflow was found in the __vsyslog_internal function of the glibc library. This function is called by the syslog and vsyslog functions. This issue occurs when these functions are called with a very long message, leading to an incorrect calculation of the buffer size to store the message, resulting in undefined behavior. This issue affects glibc 2.37 and newer.
