Keycloak: offline session token dos

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 30/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.2% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 68.9% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: org.keycloak:keycloak-model-jpa (Maven) 21.0.0; rh-sso7-keycloak (Red Hat:red_hat_single_sign_on:7.6::el7) 0:18.0.11-2.redhat_00003.1.el7sso; rh-sso7-keycloak-server (Red Hat:red_hat_single_sign_on:7.6::el7) 0:18.0.11-2.redhat_00003.1.el7sso.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to org.keycloak:keycloak-model-jpa (Maven) 21.0.0; rh-sso7-keycloak (Red Hat:red_hat_single_sign_on:7.6::el7) 0:18.0.11-2.redhat_00003.1.el7sso; rh-sso7-keycloak-server (Red Hat:red_hat_single_sign_on:7.6::el7) 0:18.0.11-2.redhat_00003.1.el7sso or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

An unconstrained memory consumption vulnerability was discovered in Keycloak. It can be triggered in environments which have millions of offline tokens (> 500,000 users with each having at least 2 saved sessions). If an attacker creates two or more user sessions and then open the "consents" tab of the admin User Interface, the UI attempts to load a huge number of offline client sessions leading to excessive memory and CPU consumption which could potentially crash the entire system.
