Postgresql: buffer overrun from integer overflow in array modification

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 36/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 4.3% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 91.1% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: pg_repack (AlmaLinux:8) 1.4.6-3.module_el8.6.0+2758+4f4474df, 1.4.6-3.module_el8.6.0+3095+ee60d910, 1.4.6-3.module_el8.6.0+2760+1746ec94; pgaudit (AlmaLinux:8) 1.4.0-5.module_el8.6.0+2758+4f4474df, 1.4.0-5.module_el8.6.0+3094+eb237fb8, 1.7.0-1.module_el8.8.0+3487+43ec1b9f; postgres-decoderbufs (AlmaLinux:8) 0.10.0-2.module_el8.6.0+3094+eb237fb8, 0.10.0-2.module_el8.6.0+3095+ee60d910, 1.9.7-1.Final.module_el8.8.0+3487+43ec1b9f.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A flaw was found in PostgreSQL that allows authenticated database users to execute arbitrary code through missing overflow checks during SQL array value modification. This issue exists due to an integer overflow during array modification where a remote user can trigger the overflow by providing specially crafted data. This enables the execution of arbitrary code on the target system, allowing users to write arbitrary bytes to memory and extensively read the server's memory.
