CVE-2023-54063: fs/ntfs3: Fix OOB read in indx_insert_into_buffer
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 31/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.19% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 17048287ac79abd33b275ac3b5738285d406481b, 4bf3b564e27a518f158a83d5e1a50064ed6136a0, a7e5dba10ba1402dd6c2f961a70320770865c4a5.

Therefore, OOB read occurs when memmove is called in indx_insert_into_buffer(). Fix this by adding a check in hdr_find_e().

Variant candidates
Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.
No nightly-computed relations.
Chain candidates
An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
