CVE-2023-52160: The implementation of PEAP in wpa_supplicant through 2.10 allows authentication bypass.
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 26/100)
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.1% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 67.6% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: wpa_supplicant (AlmaLinux:9) 1:2.10-5.el9; wpa_supplicant (Alpine:v3.19) 2.10-r10; wpa_supplicant (Alpine:v3.20) 2.10-r11.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to wpa_supplicant (AlmaLinux:9) 1:2.10-5.el9; wpa_supplicant (Alpine:v3.19) 2.10-r10; wpa_supplicant (Alpine:v3.20) 2.10-r11 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
The implementation of PEAP in wpa_supplicant through 2.10 allows authentication bypass. For a successful attack, wpa_supplicant must be configured to not verify the network's TLS certificate during Phase 1 authentication, and an eap_peap_decrypt vulnerability can then be abused to skip Phase 2 authentication. The attack vector is sending an EAP-TLV Success packet instead of starting Phase 2. This allows an adversary to impersonate Enterprise Wi-Fi networks.

Root cause
Authentication is added route by route instead of being enforced in one place. When a route added later bypasses the shared middleware, the session check never runs for it.
