CVE-2023-43804· NVD / CVE Program· CNA GitHub_M

`Cookie` HTTP header isn't stripped on cross-origin redirects

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 32/100)

  • Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.3% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 71.5% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: babel (AlmaLinux:8) 2.5.1-10.module_el8.6.0+2781+fed64c13; fence-agents-aliyun (AlmaLinux:8) 4.2.1-121.el8_9.2; fence-agents-all (AlmaLinux:8) 4.2.1-121.el8_9.2.
  • Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 5.9, NVD 8.1.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to babel (AlmaLinux:8) 2.5.1-10.module_el8.6.0+2781+fed64c13; fence-agents-aliyun (AlmaLinux:8) 4.2.1-121.el8_9.2; fence-agents-all (AlmaLinux:8) 4.2.1-121.el8_9.2 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

urllib3 is a user-friendly HTTP client library for Python. urllib3 doesn't treat the `Cookie` HTTP header special or provide any helpers for managing cookies over HTTP, that is the responsibility of the user. However, it is possible for a user to specify a `Cookie` header and unknowingly leak information via HTTP redirects to a different origin if that user doesn't disable redirects explicitly. This issue has been patched in urllib3 version 1.26.17 or 2.0.5.

The extension requests broader permissions than its function needs and sends the data it collects out for purposes beyond its stated function.

A representative example of this vulnerability class. Not the vendor's source code; it shows the faulty pattern and its fix.
