CVE-2022-49757: EDAC/highbank: Fix memory leak in highbank_mc_probe()

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.20% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 0db40e23b56d217eebd385bebb64057ef764b2c7, 329fbd260352a7b9a83781d8b8bd96f95844a51f, 8d23f5d25264beb223ee79cdb530b88c237719fc.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 0db40e23b56d217eebd385bebb64057ef764b2c7, 329fbd260352a7b9a83781d8b8bd96f95844a51f, 8d23f5d25264beb223ee79cdb530b88c237719fc or later.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: EDAC/highbank: Fix memory leak in highbank_mc_probe() When devres_open_group() fails, it returns -ENOMEM without freeing memory allocated by edac_mc_alloc(). Call edac_mc_free() on the error handling path to avoid a memory leak. [ bp: Massage commit message. ]

Variant candidates

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.

Chain candidates

An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
