afs: Fix dynamic root getattr
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.29% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 2b2bba96526f25f2eba74ecadb031de2e05a83ce, 4.19.250, 5.10.127.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 2b2bba96526f25f2eba74ecadb031de2e05a83ce, 4.19.250, 5.10.127 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: afs: Fix dynamic root getattr The recent patch to make afs_getattr consult the server didn't account for the pseudo-inodes employed by the dynamic root-type afs superblock not having a volume or a server to access, and thus an oops occurs if such a directory is stat'd. Fix this by checking to see if the vnode->volume pointer actually points anywhere before following it in afs_getattr(). This can be tested by stat'ing a directory in /afs. It may be sufficient just to do "ls /afs" and the oops looks something like: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000020 ... RIP: 0010:afs_getattr+0x8b/0x14b ... Call Trace: <TASK> vfs_statx+0x79/0xf5 vfs_fstatat+0x49/0x62

No credits in the CNA record.
Variant candidates
Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.
No nightly-computed relations.
Chain candidates
An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
