CVE-2021-47346: coresight: tmc-etf: Fix global-out-of-bounds in tmc_update_etf_buffer()
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 28/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 0115687be7b13993066aef602253a53d55f5b11f, 04bd77ef4f4d9fc6102023b85f4590fc2130aac5, 35c1c4bd2d59ad734129d4e232af9d1098023918.
- Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: coresight: tmc-etf: Fix global-out-of-bounds in tmc_update_etf_buffer() commit 6f755e85c332 ("coresight: Add helper for inserting synchronization packets") removed trailing '\0' from barrier_pkt array and updated the call sites like etb_update_buffer() to have proper checks for barrier_pkt size before read but missed updating tmc_update_etf_buffer() which still reads barrier_pkt past the array size resulting in KASAN out-of-bounds bug. Fix this by adding a check for barrier_pkt size before accessing like it is done in etb_update_buffer(). Variant candidates
Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.
No nightly-computed relations.
Chain candidates
An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
