CVE-2021-45083: An issue was discovered in Cobbler before 3.3.1.
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 28/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.31% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: cobbler (PyPI) 3.3.1; cobbler (SUSE:HPE Helion OpenStack 8) 2.6.6-49.35.1; cobbler (SUSE:Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3-CLIENT-TOOLS) 2.2.2-0.68.15.1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to cobbler (PyPI) 3.3.1; cobbler (SUSE:HPE Helion OpenStack 8) 2.6.6-49.35.1; cobbler (SUSE:Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3-CLIENT-TOOLS) 2.2.2-0.68.15.1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
An issue was discovered in Cobbler before 3.3.1. Files in /etc/cobbler are world readable. Two of those files contain some sensitive information that can be exposed to a local user who has non-privileged access to the server. The users.digest file contains the sha2-512 digest of users in a Cobbler local installation. In the case of an easy-to-guess password, it's trivial to obtain the plaintext string. The settings.yaml file contains secrets such as the hashed default password.
