CVE-2026-85012: OS command injection in the Amazon CodeCatalyst blueprints SDK

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 35/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 2.2% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 82.8% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: AWS @amazon-codecatalyst/blueprints.blueprint 0.3.156.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to AWS @amazon-codecatalyst/blueprints.blueprint 0.3.156 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

Improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command (CWE-78) in the blueprint resynthesis framework in Amazon Web Services codecatalyst-blueprints before 0.3.156 might allow a user with permission to commit to a repository in the project to execute arbitrary commands in the blueprint resynthesis environment via shell metacharacters in the owner field of a [local] merge strategy entry in a crafted .ownership-file. Version 0.3.156 removes shell interpretation of the owner field, running the command directly rather than through a shell, and rejects values outside an allowlisted command form. This eliminates shell metacharacter command injection. To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to version 0.3.156 or later. No action is required for use of the Amazon CodeCatalyst service. Resynthesis runs in an isolated per-project environment with scoped credentials, and the service applies server-side validation there that rejects [local] merge strategy commands outside a restricted allowlisted form, including for blueprint versions published before 0.3.156.

Root cause

User input is inserted as text into a shell command. The shell may interpret special characters in the input as part of the command.

A representative example of this vulnerability class. Not the vendor's source code; it shows the faulty pattern and its fix.
