CVE-2026-60122: gpsd gpsprof Code Injection via SKY.satellites used Field

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 34/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.26% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. No account or password is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: gpsd (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2; gpsd-clients (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2; python3-gpsd (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to gpsd (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2; gpsd-clients (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2; python3-gpsd (AlmaLinux:10) 1:3.26.1-3.el10_2.2 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

gpsd through release-3.27.5, fixed at commit 4c06658, contains a code injection vulnerability in the gpsprof utility that allows an attacker who controls GPS input data to execute arbitrary OS commands by injecting malicious content into the SKY.satellites[].used field, which is inserted unsanitized into a gnuplot heredoc data block. Attackers can supply a used value containing the string EOD to terminate the heredoc early and append gnuplot system() calls, achieving OS command execution as the user running gpsprof when the generated plot script is processed by gnuplot in polar mode.

Variant candidates

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.

Chain candidates

An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
