Gimp: gimp:memory disclosure and denial of service via specially crafted pcx image

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 28/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.54% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: gimp (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6; gimp-devel (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6; gimp-devel-tools (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to gimp (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6; gimp-devel (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6; gimp-devel-tools (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.8.22-26.module_el8.10.0+4175+c208a0bf.6 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A flaw was found in GIMP. This issue is a heap buffer over-read in GIMP PCX file loader due to an off-by-one error. A remote attacker could exploit this by convincing a user to open a specially crafted PCX image. Successful exploitation could lead to out-of-bounds memory disclosure and a possible application crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
