CVE-2026-47736: Puma PROXY Protocol v1 Parser Allows Remote Memory Exhaustion
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 30/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.34% (FIRST EPSS).
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- Fixed version: puma (Debian:12) 5.6.5-3+deb12u2; puma (Debian:14) 8.0.2-1; puma (RubyGems) 7.2.1, 8.0.2.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to puma (Debian:12) 5.6.5-3+deb12u2; puma (Debian:14) 8.0.2-1; puma (RubyGems) 7.2.1, 8.0.2 or later.

Puma is a Ruby/Rack web server built for parallelism. From 5.5.0 until 7.2.1 and 8.0.2, when PROXY protocol v1 support is enabled, Puma reads incoming bytes into an internal buffer while waiting for CRLF to determine whether a PROXY v1 line is present, allowing an attacker that continuously sends bytes without CRLF to cause unbounded in-process memory growth and additional CPU cost from repeatedly scanning the growing buffer. This issue is fixed in versions 7.2.1 and 8.0.2.
