Squid: Memory disclosure in FTP gateway
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 26/100)
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.5% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 74.1% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: squid-cache squid 7.6; azl3 squid 6.13-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.13-5; azl3 squid 6.13-5 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.13-5.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to squid-cache squid 7.6; azl3 squid 6.13-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.13-5; azl3 squid 6.13-5 on Azure Linux 3.0 6.13-5 or later.

Squid is a caching proxy for the Web. Prior to 7.6, due to an improper validation of syntactic correctness of input in the FTP gateway (src/clients/FtpGateway.cc), Squid is vulnerable to an out-of-bounds read: when a listing entry date in the TypeA or TypeB directory-listing formats is not followed by a filename, parsing was not restricted to the input buffer, so a trusted client accessing a misbehaving FTP server through Squid's gateway feature could read memory from random unrelated transactions. This issue is fixed in version 7.6.
