CVE-2026-42006: An attacker can cause uncontrolled memory usage with excessive bracing over IMAP.
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 17/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.62% (FIRST EPSS).
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: dovecot (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1; dovecot-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1; dovecot-mysql (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to dovecot (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1; dovecot-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1; dovecot-mysql (AlmaLinux:10) 1:2.3.21-19.el10_2.1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
An attacker can cause uncontrolled memory usage with excessive bracing over IMAP. The fix in CVE-2026-27857 was incomplete, only blocking one way of doing this, so there was still another way left open. In particular, the fix was for closing braces, but you could still use open braces to bypass the limit. Using excessive bracing, attacker can cause memory usage up to configured memory limit. Install fixed version, or configure vsz_limit for imap process to low value. No publicly available exploits are known.
