CVE-2026-41179: RClone: Unauthenticated operations/fsinfo allows attacker-controlled backend instantiation and local command execution
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)
- A ready-made attack module is public (Nuclei); exploiting it takes no special expertise.
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 8.5% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 95.1% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- Fixed version: rclone (Alpine:v3.24) 1.73.5-r0; github.com/rclone/rclone (Go) 1.73.5; rclone (openSUSE:Tumbleweed) 1.73.5-1.1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to rclone (Alpine:v3.24) 1.73.5-r0; github.com/rclone/rclone (Go) 1.73.5; rclone (openSUSE:Tumbleweed) 1.73.5-1.1 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
Rclone is a command-line program to sync files and directories to and from different cloud storage providers. Starting in version 1.48.0 and prior to version 1.73.5, the RC endpoint `operations/fsinfo` is exposed without `AuthRequired: true` and accepts attacker-controlled `fs` input. Because `rc.GetFs(...)` supports inline backend definitions, an unauthenticated attacker can instantiate an attacker-controlled backend on demand. For the WebDAV backend, `bearer_token_command` is executed during backend initialization, making single-request unauthenticated local command execution possible on reachable RC deployments without global HTTP authentication. Version 1.73.5 patches the issue.
