CVE-2026-27951: FreeRDP has possible Integer overflow in Stream_EnsureCapacity

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 30/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.40% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: freerdp (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10; freerdp-devel (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10; freerdp-libs (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10.
  • Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 5.3, NVD 7.5.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to freerdp (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10; freerdp-devel (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10; freerdp-libs (AlmaLinux:8) 2:2.11.7-9.el8_10 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to version 3.23.0, the function `Stream_EnsureCapacity` can create an endless blocking loop. This may affect all client and server implementations using `FreeRDP`. For practical exploitation this will only work on 32bit systems where the available physical memory is `>= SIZE_MAX`. Version 3.23.0 contains a patch. No known workarounds are available.
