CVE-2026-25942: FreeRDP has global-buffer-overflow in xf_rail_server_execute_result

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.53% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: freerdp (Alpine:v3.23) 3.23.0-r0; freerdp3 (Debian:13) 3.15.0+dfsg-2.1+deb13u1; freerdp3 (Debian:14) 3.23.0+dfsg-1.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to freerdp (Alpine:v3.23) 3.23.0-r0; freerdp3 (Debian:13) 3.15.0+dfsg-2.1+deb13u1; freerdp3 (Debian:14) 3.23.0+dfsg-1 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to version 3.23.0, `xf_rail_server_execute_result` indexes the global `error_code_names[]` array (7 elements, indices 0–6) with an unchecked `execResult->execResult` value received from the server, allowing an out-of-bounds read when the server sends an `execResult` value of 7 or greater. Version 3.23.0 fixes the issue.
