CVE-2026-15722: 389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: pre-authentication stack buffer overflow in get_ruvelement_from_berval() via unbounded replica id parsing

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 30/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.83% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 57.6% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
  • Fixed version: 389-ds-base (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2; 389-ds-base-bdb (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2; 389-ds-base-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2.
  • Mentioned 1 time in Turkish national cyber security advisories (siberguvenlik.gov.tr).

Low priority for now. Upgrade to 389-ds-base (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2; 389-ds-base-bdb (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2; 389-ds-base-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 3.2.0-9.el10_2 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A stack buffer overflow flaw was found in 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). The get_ruvelement_from_berval() function in repl5_ruv.c copies digit characters from a network-supplied RUV berval into a fixed 16-byte stack buffer without bounds checking. A remote unauthenticated attacker can crash the LDAP server by sending a crafted StartNSDS50ReplicationRequest extended operation containing a replica ID field with more than 16 digit characters. The overflow occurs during payload decoding, before any authorization check. Stack protectors limit impact to denial of service.
