CVE-2026-12892: Gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free: gstreamer1-plugins-bad: 1-byte heap out-of-bounds read in h.264 nal extension slice parser
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 17/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.15% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:12) 1.22.0-4+deb12u8; gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:13) 1.26.2-3+deb13u3; gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:14) 1.28.5-1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:12) 1.22.0-4+deb12u8; gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:13) 1.26.2-3+deb13u3; gst-plugins-bad1.0 (Debian:14) 1.28.5-1 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
A flaw was found in GStreamer's gst-plugins-bad package. When processing a specially crafted H.264 video file containing malformed MVC or SVC extension slice NAL units, a 1-byte heap out-of-bounds read can occur during parsing. This happens when the parser attempts to check slice boundary information without first verifying that the NAL unit contains enough data beyond the extension header. An attacker could exploit this by tricking a user into opening a malicious H.264 video file, potentially causing the application to crash or leak a single byte of heap memory.
