CVE-2025-32023: Redis allows out of bounds writes in hyperloglog commands leading to RCE
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 33/100)
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (Exploit-DB, GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 6.4% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 93.7% of all records.
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: redis redis 8.0.3; azl3 valkey 8.0.3-3 on Azure Linux 3.0 8.0.4-1; azl3 valkey 8.0.4-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 8.0.4-1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to redis redis 8.0.3; azl3 valkey 8.0.3-3 on Azure Linux 3.0 8.0.4-1; azl3 valkey 8.0.4-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 8.0.4-1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
Redis is an open source, in-memory database that persists on disk. From 2.8 to before 8.0.3, 7.4.5, 7.2.10, and 6.2.19, an authenticated user may use a specially crafted string to trigger a stack/heap out of bounds write on hyperloglog operations, potentially leading to remote code execution. The bug likely affects all Redis versions with hyperloglog operations implemented. This vulnerability is fixed in 8.0.3, 7.4.5, 7.2.10, and 6.2.19. An additional workaround to mitigate the problem without patching the redis-server executable is to prevent users from executing hyperloglog operations. This can be done using ACL to restrict HLL commands.
