ASN.1 date parser overread
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 32/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 20.2% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 97.4% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: azl3 cmake 3.30.3-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 3.30.3-4; azl3 cmake 3.30.3-6 on Azure Linux 3.0 3.30.3-4; cbl2 rust 1.68.0-1 on CBL Mariner 2.0 1.68.0-1.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to azl3 cmake 3.30.3-4 on Azure Linux 3.0 3.30.3-4; azl3 cmake 3.30.3-6 on Azure Linux 3.0 3.30.3-4; cbl2 rust 1.68.0-1 on CBL Mariner 2.0 1.68.0-1 or later.
Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it
Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
libcurl's ASN1 parser code has the `GTime2str()` function, used for parsing an ASN.1 Generalized Time field. If given an syntactically incorrect field, the parser might end up using -1 for the length of the *time fraction*, leading to a `strlen()` getting performed on a pointer to a heap buffer area that is not (purposely) null terminated. This flaw most likely leads to a crash, but can also lead to heap contents getting returned to the application when [CURLINFO_CERTINFO](https://curl.se/libcurl/c/CURLINFO_CERTINFO.html) is used.
