Bruteforce protection can be bypassed with misconfigured proxy
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)
- Public proof-of-concept code exists (GitHub); there is no record of exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 63.7% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- According to CISA the attack is automatable: targets can be found by mass scanning.
- No fixed version is recorded, but the references include a patch (commit or PR) link.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 5.3, NVD 9.8.
Low priority for now. See the fix and affected versions sections below.

Nextcloud Server provides data storage for Nextcloud, an open source cloud platform. In Nextcloud Server prior to versions 26.0.9 and 27.1.4; as well as Nextcloud Enterprise Server prior to versions 23.0.12.13, 24.0.12.9, 25.0.13.4, 26.0.9, and 27.1.4; when a (reverse) proxy is configured as trusted proxy the server could be tricked into reading a wrong remote address for an attacker, allowing them executing authentication attempts than intended. Nextcloud Server versions 26.0.9 and 27.1.4 and Nextcloud Enterprise Server versions 23.0.12.13, 24.0.12.9, 25.0.13.4, 26.0.9, and 27.1.4 contain a patch for this issue. No known workarounds are available.
