CVE-2023-49145: Apache NiFi: Improper Neutralization of Input in Advanced User Interface for Jolt
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 21/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.2% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 68.4% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: org.apache.nifi:nifi-jolt-transform-json-ui (Maven) 1.24.0.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 7.9, NVD 5.4.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to org.apache.nifi:nifi-jolt-transform-json-ui (Maven) 1.24.0 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
Apache NiFi 0.7.0 through 1.23.2 include the JoltTransformJSON Processor, which provides an advanced configuration user interface that is vulnerable to DOM-based cross-site scripting. If an authenticated user, who is authorized to configure a JoltTransformJSON Processor, visits a crafted URL, then arbitrary JavaScript code can be executed within the session context of the authenticated user. Upgrading to Apache NiFi 1.24.0 or 2.0.0-M1 is the recommended mitigation.

This is a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. A well-configured Content-Security-Policy doesn't fix it, but greatly reduces its impact. Check your site's CSP and other security headers for free.
