Invalid offset validation leading to Out Of Bound Write in FreeRDP
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 1.5% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 74.6% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: freerdp (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9; freerdp-devel (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9; freerdp-libs (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 5.3, NVD 9.8.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to freerdp (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9; freerdp-devel (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9; freerdp-libs (AlmaLinux:9) 2:2.11.2-1.el9 or later.

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), released under the Apache license. Affected versions are subject to an invalid offset validation leading to Out Of Bound Write. This can be triggered when the values `rect->left` and `rect->top` are exactly equal to `surface->width` and `surface->height`. eg. `rect->left` == `surface->width` && `rect->top` == `surface->height`. In practice this should cause a crash. This issue has been addressed in versions 2.11.0 and 3.0.0-beta3. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
