udf: Fix preallocation discarding at indirect extent boundary

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 22/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
  • Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: Linux Linux 12a88f572d6d94b5c0b72e2d1782cc2e96ac06cf, 1a075f4a549481ce6e8518d8379f193ccec6b746, 4d835efd561dfb9bf5409f11f4ecd428d5d29226.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 12a88f572d6d94b5c0b72e2d1782cc2e96ac06cf, 1a075f4a549481ce6e8518d8379f193ccec6b746, 4d835efd561dfb9bf5409f11f4ecd428d5d29226 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: udf: Fix preallocation discarding at indirect extent boundary When preallocation extent is the first one in the extent block, the code would corrupt extent tree header instead. Fix the problem and use udf_delete_aext() for deleting extent to avoid some code duplication.

Same product, same weakness class, within 18 months. If the patch missed the root cause, the sibling bug is here.

No nightly-computed relations.

Chain candidates

An authentication bypass and a privilege-requiring bug in the same product, published close together: combined they may become an unauthenticated path.
